An ElevenReader Alternative for Email and Newsletters

Updated October 2026

If you mostly listen to PDFs, EPUBs, or web articles, stay with ElevenReader. It is built for those files and its free plan has more listening time. If you want to listen to newsletters that arrive as email, Spokeninbox gives you a private forwarding address: forward the email, then press Play.

Choose by where your reading comes from

According to the ElevenReader homepage, you can import PDFs, EPUBs, web links, pasted text, and scanned images. It has apps for iOS, Android, and the web, plus a Chrome extension. The free plan includes 10 hours of text-to-audio each month, along with syncing between web and mobile, bookmarks, and a sleep timer. If your listening is mostly files, books, and saved articles, ElevenReader fits that well.

Spokeninbox is narrower. It handles email. You forward newsletters to a private address, or set up rules so selected senders arrive on their own. It doesn't import PDFs, EPUBs, books, or web links.

ElevenReader documents imports by file, link, or pasted text. Spokeninbox gives email a different route: forward a message from Gmail or Outlook, or set a rule for selected senders.

Try one newsletter in Spokeninbox

These steps are in Spokeninbox, not ElevenReader:

  1. Sign in at app.spokeninbox.com.
  2. Copy your own address from forwarding setup. It ends in @in.spokeninbox.com.
  3. Forward one email that contains the actual newsletter text.
  4. Press Play.

Spokeninbox extracts the email body into a clean transcript and creates audio when you press Play. If the email contains only a teaser or a link, that's all it receives. It doesn't fetch the linked article or bypass paywalls.

When that test works, forward selected senders automatically with the Gmail auto-forward guide or the Outlook auto-forward guide. For a broader walkthrough, see how to listen to newsletters, or compare another option in the Speechify alternative guide.

Good morning. This week's recipe is a simple lentil soup that takes about thirty minutes and keeps well for days. Soften one chopped onion, two carrots and a stick of celery in olive oil. Add two cloves of garlic, a teaspoon of cumin and a pinch of chili flakes. Stir in a cup of red lentils, a tin of chopped tomatoes and four cups of stock. Simmer for twenty minutes, until the lentils fall apart. Finish with a squeeze of lemon and a handful of chopped parsley. Serve with warm bread.

Questions

Should I switch from ElevenReader to Spokeninbox?

Only for email. If you listen to PDFs, EPUBs, books, or web articles, keep using ElevenReader. Spokeninbox doesn't handle those. You can use ElevenReader for files and Spokeninbox for newsletters.

Can I move my ElevenReader library to Spokeninbox?

No. Spokeninbox doesn't import or sync from ElevenReader, and it doesn't accept files or links. It reads only emails you forward to your private address.

Do both apps have a free plan?

Yes. ElevenReader's homepage lists 10 hours of text-to-audio per month for free. Spokeninbox's free plan includes 60 minutes per month.
